Modifications and Enhancements to the Standard Bavaria 39C Specifications

This Bavaria 39 Cruiser ‘Tigerlily’ was constructed with a number of optional extras which enhance comfort and sailing performance whilst ensuring that she is easy to handle when short-handed.

The lead antimony deep keel (draft 2.0m) reduces heeling and, when coupled with the high tech main and genoa, provides improves performance over the standard Bavaria 39C. The furling genoa and in-mast reefing main, with all control sheets led back to the cockpit, facilitate short- handed sailing.

All instruments are interfaced and long passages both under motor and sail can be accomplished while the boat is under auto-helm control. The AIS system and radar ensure that sailing at night can be accomplished safely and securely. The NAVTEX system provides regular weather forecasts and serves as a repeater for sailing data in the saloon.

The chart-plotter and a VHF remote handset in the cockpit facilitate anchoring and mooring. There is a 50m tape reel mounted on the push-pit to facilitate taking a line ashore when anchoring in crowded bays.

Two solar panels are mounted on the frame of the bimini. These provide sufficient power (7 amps maximum) to enable the fridge and anchor light to be operated continuously during sunny weather without needing to recharge the batteries by running the engine.

Tigerlily has oil pressure and engine temperature gauges fitted.

Other Key Features

  • Two heads, one en-suite, each with a basin and a shower (one fixed shower, one hand held)
  • Shower point on transom enabling showering after swimming.
  • Large cockpit fully covered by a bimini to facilitate outdoor entertaining
  • Beautiful light wood panelling in the saloon and all cabins
  • Sleeps 6 people in comfort in 3 cabins without needing to resort to using the couch seating area in the saloon.
  • Tigerlily steers very easily in reverse which facilitates mooring stern-to in Mediterranean style berths
  • Holding tanks with deck pump out points are becoming essential. These are fitted to both heads.

Owners Comments

Cruising Area

Tigerlily was purchased new in November 2006 by her current owner. She was launched in Slovenia and sailed to Limassol Yacht Marina, in Cyprus where she was berthed until June 2010. Whilst living and working on Cyprus, the owner sailed mainly at weekends taking short day trips whilst entertaining friends and family. However, once a year, the owner and her husband undertook longer passages to the southern coast of Turkey.

Late in 2010, the owner returned to the UK. Before leaving Cyprus she and her husband sailed Tigerlily to Marmaris. She was kept on the hard in the Yacht Marina for the next three years other than for several months in the summers of 2011 and 2012 when the owner had idyllic long holidays island hopping through the Dodecanese Islands and along the Turkish Coast.

In May 2013, Tigerlily was sailed across the Aegean and through the Corinth Canal to Cleopatra Marina near Preveza with the intention of continuing on to Italy in 2014. Unfortunately, the owner was diagnosed with osteoarthritis late in 2013 which has meant that Tigerlily is very reluctantly being put up for sale.

Maintenance

Whist berthed in Limassol, Tigerlily was exclusively maintained by the local Bavaria Agent through whom she had been initially been purchased. The engine was regularly serviced in accordance with the manufacturers specifications by the Volvo Penta Agent for Cyprus.

In Marmaris Yacht Marine, Tigerlily was professionally maintained by TMS and Marlin Yachting, who’s work included changeing the sail drive diaphragm in accordance with the Volvo/Penta Service schedule in April 2013.
