A Sparkman & Stephens 34 classic yacht  – a top design by Olin Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens fame.

GRP hull with renovated wooden top and cabin using woods such as Iroko, Kumaru, Jatoba and Merbau, this yacht has legendary sea-keeping qualities due to the design of its hull.

This Sparkman and Stephens yacht benefits from a 2,500 kg lead keel making it very sea-worthy and stable.  This particular yacht has had much refurbishment work over recent years.  Comes equipped with a full suit of sails and a larger-than-standard Beta Marine Kubota 28 bhp diesel engine with a recent new ZF gearbox (only about 30 hours use).

A highly sought-after design this yacht is well equipped with everything working as it should and is ready to sail.

One of the best known names in yachting, the American firm of Sparkman and Stephens was started by brothers Rod and Olin Stephens in partnership with the successful yacht broker Drake Sparkman in 1929.

Their first great success was Dorade designed and built for Stephens Son to see the young business through the Great Depression and which won the Trans-Atlantic Race in 1931. Other great designs followed – Stormy Weather, Bolero and many more, currently some 2700 + designs to date.

This boat is one of 4 similar yachts built, all successful racers in their day, she is a very eye catching yacht with a remarkable performance that will give any modern yacht of her size a good run for her money.

Olin Stephens died earlier this year. (2009)
