This 2005 Johnson 87 is hull number 12 of a very successful line of motoryachts. Designed by the British yacht designer Bill Dixon she has one of the best interior volume layouts of any 87” yacht on the market. Bill Dixon’s brief was to build a yacht which was inside the 24 meter load length rule meaning the owners could use the yacht without crew and to have an interior volume of a super yacht, both were achieved.
‘Whisper IV’ was built for her previous owner who was a very experienced yachtsman having owned three motoryachts previously to the Johnson 87. He employed his caption of 12 years to visit the yard in Taiwan every two weeks to ensure the build was done to a very high standard. During his visits he also took videos/pictures of the build. On her completion she was shipped directly to Barcelona ready for use in the Balearic Islands.
Her interior layout is known as the ‘country kitchen’ as she has a vast open plan kitchen which allows owners to entertain while guests are within talking distance. She has a full beam double master cabin with his and her bathroom, double VIP cabin forward, twin guest cabins with a Pullman and double guest cabin to starboard all with en-suite. There is a large crew area which is aft of the engine room it allows for four crew in one double and a twin cabin both with en-suite, a small galley and dinette is also provided. A variety of tenders are located on the flybridge which include: Brig E380 rib, Kawasaki 800 and Yamaha 800 stand up jet ski, Yamaha 1300 two seater jet ski and 2 sea kayaks.
‘Whisper IV’ is powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M91 engines which have been meticulously maintained by her full time caption (current hours 1,600). Two 26kw Northern Lights generators are both fitted with wet exhaust mufflers for silent running, bow and stern thruster along with Trac Stabilizers make her a very comfortable and easy to operate motoryacht.
She benefits from having ‘mini’ refit in July 2013 which included her hull being sandblasted, re epoxied and four layers of antifoul applied, new cutlass bearings and the normal full engine service.
