This Sovereign 400 ‘Kaiso’ was designed by Naval Architect, Rob Humphreys, and built by Sovereign Yachts in England. She is an ideal passage making performance cruiser, built to a high standard of construction and benefits from quality fittings such as Lewmar winches and hatches.

Set up for performance she has a traveller in front of the helm and oversize Lewmar 54 primary winches, her deep cockpit makes her a safe comfortable boat and her folding wheel provides extra room when moving around the wheel. The elliptical lead fin keel is of lead with a ballast ratio of 0.46 which means that she is stiffer and more reliable in tougher weather conditions and she will hold sail for longer compared to many lighter cruising boats of a similar size.

Her interior joinery of contrasting wood gives her a modern light feel and demonstrates the attention to detail in her build compared to most modern / cheaper production brands. She sleeps eight in a master forward ensuite cabin, two aft cabins with day head and saloon.

Unlike other boats of this size her port aft cabin, which is accessed through her day head, easily converts to a utility storage cabin “garage” and is a real benefit for those wanting to cruise longer distances. She benefits from opening port lights and plenty of storage throughout, and a drop leaf saloon table makes her very spacious.

The Sovereign 400 is designed and built to meet the requirements of the CE directive 94/25/CE (Category A – ‘Ocean’) for recreational craft.

Owners Comments

I have done many thousands of miles cruising on “Kaiso” and found her safe, enjoyable and rewarding to sail. Her specification has been gradually upgraded in recent years and most recently with safety gear for long distance cruising.

She was launched in 2007 in Southampton, UK and sailed across the Atlantic towards the end of the year. She has been widely sailed in the Caribbean, being used for pleasure cruising and occasional skippered chartering and regatta use. In the last two years she has been used for cruising on the Eastern seaboard.
