Frank Curtis designed and built 1925 Dunkirk Little Ship for sale
This is a wonderful chance to own a piece of maritime history, ‘Anne’ is the last remaining Dunkirk Little Ship with her original engines. She has been the subject of a major rebuild by her current owner and presents in her simple yet elegant 1925 form.
In May 1940 Anne was towed (to save fuel) from the Thames to work under enemy fire in the shallow waters off Dunkirk beaches in operation Dynamo, during the rescue of 385,000 trapped soldiers. Described by Winston Churchill as a ‘miracle ‘.
Powered by her original Twin 20hp Alisa Craig LB4 Petrol Engines which were fully restored in 2010 and serviced by Rolls Royce this year, her full rebuild included; new grown oak stem post, pitch pine planking and English oak ribs. During the rebuild her interior was refurbished back to her 1925 layout using the finest English elm and finished off with original Edwardian brass ware.
This Dunkirk Little Ship has a fully documented history which dates back to her former owners Brigadier General Sir Federick Myrick-Bark and Commander AFG Tracey R.N. She is included in the National Maritime Museum’s list of small vessels of importance and is also featured in the July 1925 issue of Motor Boat magazine following her completion for Mr NR Mellor of Helford, Cornwall.
Anne was part of the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk Crossing in 2010, where fifty Little Ships took part in this touching event and in 2012 she was invited to the Diamond Jubilee Pageant where she was sporting a new paint job.
If it is a real classic you are looking for which has history Anne is the boat for you. Offers will be excepted on her current asking price.
