One owner from new 1986 Moody 58 Custom Sloop now for sale
This, one owner from new, Moody 58 Custom Sloop ‘Ardent Spirit’ was designed by Bill Dixon and built in 1986 by A.H. Moody & Sons at their yard in Bursledon, England as the first of a series. Four were built.
Under the name ‘Kindred Spirit’ she was sailed across the Atlantic for the Annapolis and Ft. Lauderdale Boat Shows in the fall of 1986. She was then sailed back to England for the 1987 London Boat Show and received excellent reviews in yachting magazines on both sides of the Atlantic.
She was purchased from Moody by Dr. and Mrs Beiser in January 1988 who renamed her ‘Ardent Spirit’ and a few years later had her hull color changed from white to black.
A great many modifications were carried out at Moody’s yard — for instance, electric winches, Maxprop feathering propeller, watermaker, radar, SSB radiotelephone, and a new mainsail with full-length battens and lazy jacks were all added, the lifelines and pulpits were raised, the bow fitting was rebuilt to take a larger anchor and the refrigeration system was improved.
Later additions include a better generator and watermaker, supplementary AC refrigeration compressor, electric jib furler and manual forestaysail furler, new opening portlights at the forward end of the saloon, a lazy bag for the mainsail, and a large fiberglass-bottom inflatable dinghy that stows in chocks on the foredeck and is raised and lowered with an electric winch.
More recently new North Sails, electric toilets and a bow thruster were installed.
‘Ardent Spirit’ has never raced or chartered, normally cruised by owners alone.
